OKLAHOMA CITY – The deputy secretary of Veterans Affairs is in Oklahoma to discuss recent investigations into the Oklahoma VA system.

Deputy Secretary Sloan Gibson is visiting the VA hospitals in Muskogee and Oklahoma City at the request of Republican U.S. Sens. Jim Inhofe and James Lankford.

The three are to discuss their findings Friday in Oklahoma City.

Gibson’s visit comes following allegations of missed diagnoses and poor treatment of patients at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center.

Inhofe and Lankford last month introduced legislation to allow directors of Veterans Integrated Services Network chapters to remove or demote any VA employee within their network whose performance warrants such action and to authorize VISN directors to contract with an outside entity to conduct investigations of their VA medical facilities.
