OKLAHOMA CITY – The temperatures are dropping and that means your heating bills may be going up.
Fortunately, help is available for those who qualify for home heating assistance.
The Department of Human Services will begin taking applications for their Low-Income Energy Assistance Program, known as LIHEAP, beginning Tuesday December, 9.
Officials say they will continue to accept applications until all allocated funds are depleted.
DHS says they have approximately $8 million in federal funds for this year’s Winter Heating Program.
Eligibility for the program is based on household income.
Organizers say that many households that are currently receiving public assistance through DHS will be automatically authorized and won’t have to apply.
