LEHI, Utah – Ever since he was little, Alex Visker wanted to be a chef.
But life doesn’t always turn out how you would expect.
From a very young age, allergies were Visker’s worst enemy.
However, peanuts weren’t the only thing that caused his body to have a reaction.
“I have pages of allergies,” he said.
Every month, more and more foods would cause him to become sick.
“When I was the most sick, I was literally in bed, curled up, staring at the wall for hours,” Visker said.
Visker’s mother, Jodie, says she took the teen to see dozens of specialists but no one seemed to have an answer.
As doctors continued to think Visker’s condition wasn’t real, he was missing hundreds of days of school.
“It has been a very long and frustrating road,” he said.
Eventually, Visker realized that he is simply allergic to food.
Doctors now believe he has a form of Mast Cell Activation Disorder.
“A lot of people you hear about, they’re down to like four or five foods,” said Jodie Visker. “We don’t know of anyone else who can’t eat any foods at all.”
The only thing Visker can “eat” are bottles of hypoallergenic powdered nutrients. He says he has to pour the formula directly into his stomach through a feeding tube in his abdomen.
He graduated high school and is planning to take online college courses.
