OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City police want to remind you that school zone speed limits are enforced year-round.

According to the City of Oklahoma City, even though it’s summer, many schools have students attending summer school and other activities.

Officials say that is why it is important for drivers to slow down in school zones all year.

If the school zone signal is flashing, the speed limit is in effect.

“The signals are flashing for a reason: to let you know to slow down for the safety of school children nearby,” said police Master Sgt. Gary Knight. “The time of year or time of day doesn’t matter.”

Disregarding flashing school zone signs could result in an expensive ticket.

Officials say the fine and costs for speeding in a school zone total $202.
