EDMOND, Okla. – The ‘Griswolds’ have nothing on the McIntire family.
“We hit a big number this year. We hit at just over 100,000,” Chris McIntire said.
McIntire puts these lights up himself with only a little bit of help from a friend, and a lot of dedication.
“I’d say this year it took two weeks, or two and a half weeks, which was a little disappointing. Next year, I’m going for one day,” McIntire said.
Chris programs the lights to coordinate with music.
“We have five more traditional songs sung by more contemporary artists, and then five non-traditional songs,” McIntire said.
From songs like Flo Rida, to the more traditional “Jingle Bells.”
He puts these lights to the music by himself. It’s a true test of patience.
“It takes me about five to 10 hours per minute of songs, so sometimes it’s difficult, but I just sit down and hammer it out,” McIntire said.
And he wants to make sure you get the full experience by streaming the music on radio.
“So if it’s cold out, nobody has to freeze to enjoy the show,” he said.
It’s become a tourist attraction for folks across Oklahoma.
“Oh, they’re wonderful. This is like, our third time to see them,” one on-looker said.
With all of this electricity, how much is that electric bill?
“Because they’re LEDs, and because they’re rarely on at the same time, it only costs about $60 or $70 dollars for the entire holiday season,” McIntire said.
It’s a very small price for the joy it gives to visitors.
“People come out here and they enjoy it. It doesn’t matter how old or young they are,” McIntire said.
“They get this wonderful smile on their face.”
You can see the show by driving by the McIntire’s home at 4102 Calm Waters Way in Edmond.
