LUTHER, Okla. - Police are investigating after a 4-month-old baby was found dead inside a vehicle at a daycare.
Officials were at the scene of Apple Creek Learning Center in Luther Friday afternoon.
The Oklahoma County Sheriff's office says the baby was found dead inside the vehicle outside of the daycare after the grandmother came to pick her up.
Officials say the grandmother has full custody of the baby and was going to drop the child off on her way to work in Oklahoma City but never dropped her off.
When the grandmother went to pick up the child at the daycare, the baby was not there.
"They informed her that she did not drop off the child and they went, proceeded to look for the child inside the daycare, they couldn't find her. That's when they went out to the vehicle, and then discovered her outside in the back of the car. She was deceased," said Mark Opgrande with the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office.
It is believed the baby was inside the vehicle at the grandmother's place of work all day.
“She’s being questioned. She’s obviously distraught. This is a tragic situation and that’s why we remind parents all the time. It’s hot out and things like this aren’t supposed to happen but they do," Opgrande said. "So, we just want to make sure that people understand to take extra care, especially during the summer. And of course, all times of the year, make sure you know where your children are.”
