ENID, Oklahoma. — An Enid man is in serious condition after a Saturday morning apartment fire.

Around 2:52 a.m. Saturday, fire crews responded to the Cherokee Terrace Apartment complex, 215 S 6 Street.

Crews arrived on the scene to light smoke coming from a window an apartment. Upon entry, firefighters found Jerry Rankin, 64, unconscious near the front door.

Fire personnel removed Rankin from the apartment and assisted Life EMS with transport to St. Mary Regional Medical Center.

Crews extinguished the room and contents in the bedroom of the apartment, reports said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but evidence suggests a discarded cigarette may have been the source of the fire.

Initial damage estimates are $20,000 to the structure and $10,000 to the contents.

Rankin remains in serious condition at St. Mary’s Intensive Care Unit.
