ESPN sports announcer Stephen A. Smith is trying to do some damage control after controversial remarks he made on the air recently.

On Friday’s edition of ESPN’s First Take, Stephen A. Smith  talked about the NFL’s decision to suspend Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice for two games following charges of assaulting his then fiancée, now wife, a few months ago.

Smith  gave a formal apology on Monday for those comments.

ESPN says the comments don’t reflect the company’s point of view.

NBC Sports reports that Smith apparently will not be suspended or disciplined.
