OKLAHOMA CITY — An Oklahoma City family looks for answers after a man is found suffering from life-threatening injuries. Oklahoma City police don’t have any suspects in the case. In fact, investigators aren’t sure exactly what happened to the victim.
The mystery started late last week when Thomas Jackson Jr. showed up at the hospital with major injuries.
“We don’t know at this point what happened. If it was an assault or self-inflicted, we don’t know at this point,” Oklahoma City police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said.
After being transported to the hospital, the police report states Jackson had “trouble breathing” with “major trauma to his face,” his “left cheek very swollen,” along with “bruising on left chest” and “bleeding on his brain.”
His condition has made locating a suspect challenging.
“Obviously it makes it difficult when you can’t communicate with the source to find out what happened to him,” Wardlow said.
“It’s pretty hard not knowing what happened,” Jackson’s stepfather, Kish Whitebird, said.
Jackson’s stepdad and several family members have spent the last few days at the hospital.
Jackson’s brother said, off camera, he expects his sibling to pass away soon.
Jackson’s dad agrees.
“He’s not going to make it. He’s in very deep coma and got train trauma real bad,” Whitebird said. “It’s bad for us, you know, devastating.”
Jackson has been taken off life support.
The family encourages anyone with information on the mysterious crime to contact investigators.
“Any little information they could give, that would help the family a lot, you know, to kind of put a closure on this thing, you know,” Whitebird said.
If Jackson does pass away from his injuries, the case would likely be re-classified as a homicide.
Jackson didn’t show any injuries consistent with being hit by a car.
He also didn’t have any stab and gunshot wounds.
Beyond that, the cause of the injuries remains unclear.
