OKLAHOMA CITY -- A family escapes their burning home safely when the house caught fire in the 1000 block of SW 28th Street.

The fire sparked about 9:30 p.m. Sunday night in a neighborhood near NW 29th and Western.

A neighbor called 911.

Crews arrived to heavy smoke and flames near the back of the house.

Crews extinguished the fire quickly, but not before it did significant damage.

The residents were at home when the fire started, but they were able to make it out safely.

The family dog did not survive.
