SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. – A California father is facing charges after his 1-month-old son suffered a “catastrophic brain injury” and fell into a coma.

Sheriff’s officials say 23-year-old Christian Tressa claims he was watching the infant and his 1-year-old son at home when he says the baby fell from a rocking bassinet, which was on top of an ottoman.

The next morning, the baby had a bruise on his face, so Tressa called the child’s mother.

Authorities say the mother wanted the baby taken to the hospital immediately, but Tressa waited until the afternoon.

Officials told KTLA that the baby suffered “severe, multiple injuries” and a “catastrophic brain injury” that were “inconsistent with a fall from a short distance.”

A short time later, the boy fell into a coma.

Tressa was arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse involving great bodily injury resulting in a comatose state.
