ROCKFORD, Ill. – A father is facing charges after allegedly taking matters into his own hands.

Authorities say 56-year-old Roy Williams, Jr. originally called police after learning that his 13-year-old daughter was involved in a fight.

Instead of waiting around for officers, police say Williams decided to get revenge.

Witnesses say he started going after a group of teens with a cane.

“People saw it so they started running,” said Trey Telfair.

According to police, Williams got back into his car and went after the group.

“That’s when he drove onto the grass,” said Nathan Velez, who recorded the incident on his cell phone.

“He was coming at us and he was revving his engine to speed up when he was getting close to people and when he got close to me, I just jumped out-of-the-way,” Telfair told WREX.

After police watched the video, Williams was arrested.

“He should have not taken matters into his own hands and we would have investigated that initial incident and tried to resolve it without there being any further violence,” said Assistant Deputy Chief Doug Pann.

Williams is now facing charges of aggravated assault with a vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon.

No charges were filed in relation to the original fight.
