Father of Michigan’s first set of sextuplets dies at 39-years-old

DETROIT (NBC) – The father of Michigan’s first set of surviving sextuplets has passed away.

Ben Van Houten had just set up a trampoline in his yard when he suffered a fatal heart attack.

He was 39-years-old.

According to family members, Van Houten had a history of heart problems.

He and his wife, Amy, became local media fixtures after the 2004 births of their sextuplets.

John, Gerrit, Samantha, Nolan, Peyton and Kennedy are now left without their father.

The couple also has another daughter who is 7-years-old.
