OKLAHOMA CITY-- Help from all across the country has poured in for tornado and storm victims in Oklahoma but the door for some of the most vital assistance is about to close.

It's been more than a month since parts of our state were basically shut down after tornadoes ripped cities apart.

While many families are still picking up the pieces of their lives, a federal agency says time is running out to apply for help.

The FEMA deadline is only 10 days away and if you don't sign up by then, you won't receive any assistance from the agency.

Nate Custer, with FEMA, said, "We at FEMA need to know where you are and who you are and we need to know that by July 19. That is the deadline to register for the recent severe weather in May and the first couple of days in June."

The declared areas include Cleveland, Lincoln, McClain, Oklahoma, Pottawatomie, Canadian, LeFlore, Okfuskee and Okmulgee counties for individual assistance.

While some of those counties were just added to the list, the deadline still applies for everyone.

Custer said, "That's the basis for the deadline; 60 days from the date of the declaration, which was the night of May 20."

Some may be thinking that since they weren't homeowners they don't qualify for assistance but Custer says that is not the case.

Authorities say if you were impacted by the storms, you need to register.

Custer said, "When you do that, you get a call back from FEMA within a couple of days to make an appointment. They come out and look at just what happened to your property."

If you miss the July 19 deadline, you are out of luck.

Custer said, "You just have to register. It's not a painful process. It's easy to do and gets you into the system."

To register, visit the FEMA website or call 1-800-621-3362.
