Fire crews respond to storage unit fire; customers blame people living there

OKLAHOMA CITY – Fire officials were called to SecurCare Self Storage in southwest Oklahoma City Wednesday evening and customers who rent units there say people have been living in the units at the facility, and it’s caused problems in the past.

Crews responded to the scene near the 2400 block of S. Meridian around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to authorities on scene, people live in the unit but they weren’t there at the time.

“I feel like, honestly, it’s their [management] job to make sure that we are not in harm’s way,” witness Heather Williams said. “I come here and there is a guy that walks around staying here with a knife so I keep mace on me so I don’t have any issues. It’s not fair.”

The manager told News 4 he has kicked out three people living in their units in the past few weeks.
