OKLAHOMA CITY – While our state has developed a reputation for obesity, there’s been a push in recent years to keep Oklahomans healthy.

Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett put the city on a diet.

There are also now more options for healthy and organic foods at different restaurants and grocery stores.

While most people would not associate fruit juice with a bar, that’s exactly what Organic Squeeze is serving.

Fresh, organic juice will soon be available to customers in Nichols Hills Plaza.

Robert Rhodes, owner of Organic Squeeze, said, “We approached the idea several years ago but Oklahoma City, we don’t feel, was ready at that time.”

But Rhodes believes times have changed in this city.

He believes people are more open to the idea of juicing.

Rhodes said, “When drinking juice, you are giving your body exactly what it needs.”

The juices provide nutrients that are unprocessed and chemical free, organic.

Organic Squeeze has been in the works for about a year and a half.

The owners are locals who have used local artists to create their pendant lights and graphics.

They even offer locally made, healthy snacks.

Rhodes said, “It’s a lot of work, but it’s so exciting.”

Rhodes and his brother Mike are the brains behind the operation.

However, Robert says it all goes back to the efforts of their mom, who started juicing when they were teens.

He said, “She just wanted us to all live a healthier lifestyle.”

The healthy lifestyle stuck, leading them to experiment.

They eventually came up with their own recipes.

Rhodes said, “We’ve had our share of bad smoothies but the recipes we have now are phenomenal.”

Choosing only the best juices and smoothies for those who walk through the doors.

Rhodes said, “It’s a great way to supplement your daily diet.”

They also make and sell a juice blend called “Joe’s Mean Green Juice,” a recipe created by a man who did a documentary on the benefits of a juice diet.

Organic Squeeze opens Tuesday at 7 a.m. in Nichols Hills Plaza.
