YUKON, Okla. – Oklahoma City police said a 3-year-old child was shot in the torso Thursday evening. The toddler was rushed to the hospital and into surgery and is expected to survive the wound. News 4 was told the bullet entered and exited the abdomen.

Authorities were called to the 600 block of Cactus Ct. around 6 p.m. Thursday. At the time the parents and about five other children were home at the time. Police say parents weren’t in the room that the shooting occurred.

Detectives are interviewing witnesses to find out exactly what happened. They were getting conflicting reports about whether the child accidentally shot itself, or was shot by another child.

Police are still investigating, but believe this to be an accidental shooting.
