APOPKA, Fla. — Police say a woman had her 4-year-old son blow into a breathalyzer machine so she could start her car.

The device was installed by the child’s father because he says his wife has a drinking problem.

Doug King said he’s so outraged with his wife, April, that he refuses to bail her out of jail, WFTV reports.

The incident began when King allegedly went into a bar and left her children in the car.

“I have a lady that just came in and sat down at my bar and her kid’s in the car with the A/C running,” the bar’s manager said in a 911 call obtained by WFTV. “He looks like he’s about 2 or 3 years old.”

The caller then told police that King left the bar and started driving around the parking lot.

“She seemed a little under the influence and then she chugged a beer, but I didn’t know she had a kid in the car,” the manager told the dispatcher.

Video from an officer’s body camera shows April King, 35, and her children – ages 2 and 4 – in the parking lot of Froggers Grill and Bar.

The video shows the 4-year-old grab a breathalyzer and blow into it.

The breathalyzer is meant to gauge the driver’s blood-alcohol level before the car begins to run.

Doug King told WFTV that he installed the breathalyzer in his wife’s car because she had just got out of rehab.

Now, the father says he has had enough.

He says he is packing up the kids and moving back to Oklahoma.

April King has been charged with child neglect.
