Former Altus Airman arrested in infant’s death

A former Altus Airman is behind bars accused of killing a child.

Dustin Smades, 23, was arrested in connection with the death of two year old Curtis Hoffman. SMADES, Dustin K

In April Jackson County authorities responded to a report of a child not breathing, that child later died.

This week Smades was taken into custody at Altus Air Force Base after being discharged from the service.

He faces three felony counts of child abuse by injury, each count could carry a life sentence if convicted.
