HENNESSEY, Okla. – A former Oklahoma high school coach was arrested for having a sexually inappropriate relationship with a student.
According to EnidNews.com, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation started looking into allegations in December 2015 that Ronald Joseph Ramer, a girls basketball and volleyball coach at Hennessey High School, was having an inappropriate relationship with a high school student.
Ramer reportedly met the victim in July 2015 when she was on the volleyball team.
In October 2015, officials say the relationship took a turn when Ramer allegedly sent the student a private Facebook message.
“The messaging escalated into a relationship that crossed the coach/student line,” according to the arrest affidavit obtained by EnidNews.com.
The girl told investigators that she and Ramer had touched, hugged and kissed.
She reportedly told officials that there were at least four times when Ramer told her to meet him away from the school.
Ramer resigned from his position with the school in December 2015.
When OSBI agents issued a search warrant for Ramer’s house and phone, officials say Ramer did not show up to his house for the execution of the warrant and he told an OSBI agent that he threw his phone out of the window the night before.
He was arrested last week for felony sexual battery and use of a technology to communicate with a minor for sexual or prurient interest.
Court records show the former coach has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
He has since posted bond and will appear in court March 31, EnidNews.com reports.
