SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – On Thursday, August 15, 2013 The Hamels Foundation announced a $10,000 donation to benefit Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore, OK in memory of Sydney Angle and the six other students who were lost when a devastating tornado hit the school on May 20, 2013.
The announcement was made at The Hamels Foundation’s 4th annual ‘Diamonds & Denim’ fundraising event in Philadelphia, PA in front of more than 500 guests including professional athletes, television stars, event sponsors, and more! Sydney’s family including parents Dan and Nicole Angle and siblings Jory Pratt and Casey Angle were in attendance during the surprise announcement.
The Angle family was special guests of foundation co-founders Cole and Heidi Hamels during the event. In addition to attending the ‘Diamonds & Denim’ event, the Angle family was treated to a Philadelphia Phillies game including the opportunity to watch batting practice on the field, VIP tour of the ballpark and more.
“The Hamels Foundation is proud to be able to make a gift to Plaza Towers Elementary in memory of the seven students who passed during the devastating tornado in May”, stated Kelly Anderson Director of Operations for The Hamels Foundation. “The Angle family is an excellent representation of the community of Moore, OK and how they rallied around each other in a time of tremendous crisis and loss. We hope that this gift will help in the healing efforts of Sydney’s family and the town of Moore, Oklahoma.”
The Hamels Foundation, started in 2008 by Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels, a 2008 World Series MVP and 3-time MLB All-Star, and his wife Heidi who grew up in Buffalo, MO and graduated from Drury University in Springfield, MO is dedicated to enriching the lives of children through the power of education by giving them the tools they need to achieve their goals.
The Hamels Foundation has raised more than $2 million dollars since its inception in 2008 with 100% of funds raised benefitting education. The Hamels Foundation is headquartered in Springfield, MO.
