OKLAHOMA — Since Oklahoma is in a blood emergency, anyone who donates blood to the Oklahoma Blood Institute will receive a free OKC Thunder t-shirt.

The organization needs an average of 700 donors a day, so all Thunder fans – and those who just want to help for a good cause – are urged to give their blood to those in need from March 16-20.

Anyone 16 years* or older who is healthy can typically donate. Oklahoma Blood Institute donor centers are located in the following cities:

Ada,1930 Stonecipher Blvd. Lawton, 211 S.W. A Ave.
Ardmore, 1420 Veterans Blvd. Norman, 1004 24th Ave. N.W., Ste. 101
Central OKC, 901 N. Lincoln Blvd. North OKC, 5105 N. Portland Ave.
Edmond, 3409 S. Broadway, Ste. 300 Tulsa, 4601 E. 81st St.
Enid, 301 E. Cherokee

Hours of operation are listed at obi.org.  Appointments are not required, but can be made online or by calling 877-340-8777.

“The need for blood doesn’t get a Spring Break,” Armitage said.  Since only 18 percent of the population have negative blood types, shortages of those types are likely to occur sooner than others.  People with negative blood types are particularly asked to give during Spring Break.”
