Free exercise classes, dump your junk for free – including your hazardous waste – and why not start celebrating spring now even with winter weather in the forecast.

It’s all free this weekend.

YMCA LIVESTRONG classes free for cancer survivors, families

First, something special for cancer survivors and their families.

The YMCA knows how hard the battle is on patients and families, so they are offering free LIVESTRONG classes to all those directly affected by the illness.

The classes focus on the whole person by building muscle mass, increasing endurance and promoting emotional well-being of survivors and family members.

The 12-week program is offered at multiple locations:

CLASS III   March 3 – May 21 (Mon & Wed 9:30am-11:00am)
CLASS IV:  July 7 – Sept. 24  (Mon & Wed 9:30am-11:00am)
CLASS V:    Nov. 10 – Jan. 21 (Mon & Wed 9:30am-11:00am)

CLASS VII:   Jan. 7 – March 28  (Tues & Fri  5:30-7:00pm)
CLASS VIII:  May 6 – July 25   (Tues & Fri   5:30-7:00pm)
CLASS IX:    Sept. 2 – Nov. 21   (Tues & Fri   5:30-7:00pm)

April 2 – June 25  (Mon & Wed 1:00pm – 2:30pm)
April 2 – June 25 (Mon & Wed 5:30pm – 7:00pm)

June 3 – Aug. 29
Tuesday and Friday evenings from 5:30-7:00pm.

Session: Mar 3- May 28  (Mon & Wed 12:30pm-2:00 pm)

Dump your junk for FREE

Recycle tires

Have old tires, batteries or appliances but don’t want to pay to get rid of them?

The Department of Environmental Quality is giving you a chance to dump your junk for free.

Canadian County residents will be able to drop off items that aren’t typically accepted.

– Old tires
– Batteries (automotive, equipment and renewable batteries-no dry cells)
– Used motor oil in seal containers
– Antifreeze in sealed containers
– Appliances (with or without refrigerant-$25 charge for appliances with refrigerant)
– E-waste

Residents can drop off these items and others from March 12 to May 31.

Spring Celebration at Chickasaw Cultural Center

More winter weather is on the way but why no start welcoming in spring?

Starting Monday, everyone is invited to the Three Sisters Spring Celebration at the Chickasaw Cultural Center.

Kids can play traditional games, listen to stories, step back in time with living history performers and learn stomp dances and see how it all happened with family friendly movies.

The activities are free each day of the two-week celebration however,  there’s a small fee to go inside and tour the other exhibit halls.
