OKLAHOMA CITY — Shawn Freeman is used to dealing with money at his military surplus business.

But over the weekend, he accidentally misplaced some.

“Couldn’t find my money. And I was like, oh, maybe I left it in the pocket,” said Freeman.

On Saturday, Freeman had rented a tuxedo at Masquerade Costumes for a friend’s halloween party that night.

“Goes on every year and I went as a day of the dead guy,” said Freeman.

Freeman returned the costume on Sunday and then realized Monday morning that his cash was missing.

He immediately called the store.

“I just dropped of the dry clean this morning. So I told her I’m going to run down to the dry cleaner and we’ll sort it out,” said Christina Nguyen, the owner of Masquerade Costumes and Tuxedo Rental.

Nguyen ran back down the street to Master Cleaners and searched the pockets of Freeman’s tuxedo pants.

“When I reach in the back and I feel it, I take it out and I was like, I showed the lady at the dry cleaner. I like, oh my God, look at this and she like ooooh!” said Nguyen.

More than $1200 was wadded up in the pocket.

“I didn’t fully expect it all to be there, but it was there,” said Freeman, who says he normally carries cash because he prefers to pay for things that way.

“He’s my customer and I think that might belong to him so I think I’m responsible to find it for him,” said Nguyen.

“You would never think that somebody would be kind enough to return it and be that honest,” said Freeman.

Nguyen and her husband have owned the costume shop for 13 years and she says as small business owners, they work hard to have a good reputation.

“I feel good, yeah, because we found it and he happy, so we happy,” said Nguyen.
