Government shutdown has stores eyeing holiday shoppers already

Shoppers haven’t even reached Halloween yet but retailers are already eyeing how consumers may spend their dollars during the holidays.

They’ve forecasted just over $602 billion in holiday spending, up 3.9 percent from last year.

However, the stalemate in Washington could perhaps make consumers less willing to spend.

That’s why retailers will start enticing shoppers earlier with deals and bargains.

On the jobs front, holiday hiring will match totals from a year ago.

Business experts say the bulk of holiday hiring will be made this month.
