OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA -- Of all the people using the Lake Hefner Trail system this particular evening, runners, bikers, sunset watchers, the two who know it best might be Casey Twenter and Jeff Robison.
They imagined this lake in their screenplay.
They spent two weeks shooting a movie on the lake's far shore in June of 2014.
Their film is called 'Rudderless'
William H. Macy directs.
It's got a cast that includes Billy Crudup, Felicity Huffman, and Lawrence Fishburne.
The movie's opening credits also feature two very happy, if now rudderless, writers.
"I don't know what we're going to do now," says a smiling Twenter. "We've been working on it for so long."
"I couldn't be happier with it," says an equally happy Robison, "The music, the quality of the film, the story, and how everything played out. The acting is amazing."
We caught them during the first part of production this spring.
They showed us around the temporary movie headquarters, even Bill Macy's office.
We also sat in on some brainstorming session for their next film project.
Rudderless took more than 5 years to get to a big screen, but these two didn't care now.
"What's the most surprising thing about making this movie," asks a park visitor, "how easy it was?"
The both laugh.
"I with the biggest surprise was how easy it was," says Twenter.
Robison and Twenter, Twenter and Robison.
They have an interesting way of seeing who's name goes on the credits first.
Casey says, "That's coin toss material. He won the toss on 'The Jogger' (the independent film they produced before Rudderless) I won it on Rudderless. It's a very scientific system."
On this afternoon, neither one has a care in the world.
The sun is shining.
The birds are singing.
And, unlike anyone else out here, they both have a movie that's playing in theaters right now.
