OKLAHOMA CITY—Tragedies in Colorado, Oregon and Connecticut have ignited the issue of gun control across the country.

Despite the controversy over weapons, gun shows are more popular than ever.

Saturday, gun enthusiasts flocked to the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds for buy and sell rare and powerful finds.

There were long discussions about the shootings this year and while there isn’t a clear solution to the problem, legal gun owners don’t want to be a scapegoat.

Many gun owners, like Randy Miller, say the devastating events have forced him to have a change of heart when it comes to assault rifles.

Miller said, “This is what people are using in Iraq, Afghanistan. This is a killing machine so I think that there probably should be some kind of stricter ways on how someone could get their hands on it.”

The show attracted a few people who were not gun owners but wanted to get their first weapon for various reasons.

Some first-time visitors, like Kenneth Feather, said self-defense was one reason they decided to head to the fairgrounds.

Feather says he believes there is a cause for concern, but it shouldn’t be aimed at guns.

He said, “It should be applied more towards mental health than the guns. The guns didn’t hurt the people, the man who shot the people is the one that hurt the people.”

Other gun owners were at the event to find a few rare deals but they also weighed in on the issue.

Mike Goracke said, “I don’t want anybody to die and I definitely don’t want a gun fight but if I’m going to be in a gun fight, I don’t want to be pointing my finger at him. I want to be able to have a chance.”

One thing several people mentioned was the high prices.

Many say they were the highest they have seen for guns across the board.

However, that is not stopping buyers.

Some vendors reported selling out of inventory at shows like this one.
