With Halloween behind us, a lot of families are already looking forward to Christmas.

However, a greeting card company has changed a popular tune and is now dealing with quite a bit of backlash.

Hallmark created a tacky Christmas sweater ornament with the words from “Deck the Halls” on it.

Well, some of the words.

The company changed the word “gay” to “FUN” on the sweater.

Angry customers took to social media to voice their displeasure, accusing the greeting card giant of making a political statement by changing the classic Christmas lyrics.

Others said the company demonstrated a homophobic bias, while some said the company went too far trying to be politically correct.

The company released a statement, saying the word “gay” has multiple meanings and they didn’t want the sweater’s message to be “open to misinterpretation.”

However, officials released another statement, apologizing for the change.

It read, “We never intend to offend or make political statements with our products and in hindsight, we realize we shouldn’t have changed the lyrics on the ornament.”

The company has since removed the product’s “buy online” option from its website.
