Officials at the Centers for Disease Control are sending out a warning about the overuse of antibiotics.

Health officials said patients using antibiotics when it’s not necessary have caused three kinds of potentially deadly bacteria to become resistant.

The infections considered “urgent” threats include:

– CRE, a blood stream infection
– CDIFF, a bacteria that causes life-threatening diarrhea
– Drug-resistant Gonorrhea

Medical officials said thousands die each year from these infections.

In order to curb this growing problem, CDC experts are encouraging people to prevent infections by washing hands and only using antibiotics when absolutely necessary.
