Sadly, a new report shows substance abuse remains one of the major public health problems among American youths.
The report from the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration estimates more than 881,000 teens smoke cigarettes every day.
The number of pot smokers is lower at just over 600,000 but that is still enough teens who use marijuana in any given day to fill the Indianapolis Speedway, two and a half times.
Alcohol abuse is not much better; more than 400,000 drink alcohol nearly every day.
The report also focuses on how many teens receive treatment for substance abuse in a single day; 71,000 teens in outpatient treatment plus over 10,000 more in other forms of treatment.
The number of teens dying from drug overdoses and abuse now exceeds the number of deaths from motor vehicle accidents in the U.S.
