MOORE, Okla. – The investigation into a brutal attack in Moore took another turn Friday, after police announced the FBI’s involvement.

The Bureau is looking into Alton Nolen’s attempts to convert co-workers to Islam. Now the mosque he attended wants it known, they won’t stand for this kind of act.

“Like any American, any Oklahoman, my heart was broken,” said Imad Enchassi, Senior Imam for the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City.

Thursday’s news rocked Enchassi, and the mosque he oversees.

“I looked at the perpetrator’s picture, and didn’t recognize him,” said Enchassi. “I didn’t know who he was until the story started to unfold.

As the story unfolded, Enchassi learned Alton Nolen attended his very mosque regularly, though he was not an official member.

“[Nolen] identified himself as somebody out of jail, searching for spirituality,” said Enchassi. “Some of the people who saw his picture said he was an odd person…who exhibited odd and bizarre behavior.”

His odd behavior included sleeping on the prayer floor, and improper handling of the Qur’an.

His Facebook however told a different story, covered in ‘Radical Islamic’ posts.

“This heinous crime he committed is outrageous,” said Enchassi. “I could tell you, if he claims to be a Muslim, he’s as far away from Islam as he could be.”

“We condemn the action, we’re 100% against it,” said Saad Mohammed, board member for the ISGOC. “We send prayers to his family.”

Now members of the mosque are shuttering, knowing a man allegedly capable of such brutality, once walked among them.

“Having known he came here, it hurts me,” said Enchassi. “Maybe I could’ve reached out to him…and helped him.”
