RIPLEY, Okla. — A Ripley High School student has been suspended for one calendar year after school officials found he had a gun in his backpack.

The student was allegedly on the bus to school Thursday morning when another student found out he had a gun.

The unarmed student told school officials about the firearm, and the student in question was reportedly held until authorities arrived.

Officials say the gun was real. And although it wasn’t loaded, they say the ammunition was in the boy’s backpack.

Schools officials say they think the boy was trying to bet he could get away with bringing the gun to school.

The Ripley Superintendent said the student was probably showing it off or bragging that he had it.

No threats were made, as far as law enforcement knows, but they are still investigating that.
