UPDATE: On Monday, Home Depot officials announced that it is the latest big retailer to suffer a payment data breach.

At this point, it is unclear how many customers are affected.

However, Home Depot says the breach could affect customers who used debit or credit cards at its United States and Canadian stores from “April forward.”

Authorities say there is no evidence that debit PIN numbers were compromised.

The company says it will offer services, including credit monitoring, to any customer who used a credit or debit card at  Home Depot store from April until now.

(CNBC) – If you’re spring cleaning led you to a home improvement store, you may want to check your credit report.

According to CNBC, Home Depot customers may be the latest retailer to have suffered a massive credit card breach.

On Tuesday, the company confirmed that it is working with investigators to determine if stolen data  that appeared on black market sites came from the company.

“Protecting our customers’ information is something we take extremely seriously, and we are aggressively gathering facts at this point while working to protect customers,” a spokeswoman said in a statement to CNBC.

Krebs on Security reported that the breach appears to be from the same group that hit Target and P.F. Chang’s.

Krebs added that the breach may have taken place across all of Home Depot’s United States stores and extend from late April or early May.

“If that is accurate-and if even a majority of Home Depot stores were compromised- this breach could be many times larger than Target, which had 40 million credit and debit cards stolen over a three-week period,” said Krebs.
