GARFIELD COUNTY, Okla. – The no trespassing signs posted at the entrance of Russell Ross’ Garfield County property aren’t doing much to deter thieves.

“It’s crazy,” Ross said, “I’m so fed up with it. I’ve had so much stuff stolen.”

Ross said during the past six weeks, his grandmother’s old farm house and barn have been ransacked about eight different times.

Last week, he camped out in the abandoned house and caught three criminals in action.

“I went back around and confronted them,” he said. “They tried to run out. I ended up getting one of them, putting one of them on the ground, the other ones run away.”

Then Sunday night, as he was pulling up to the property, he caught two teenagers red-handed with a trailer loaded down with his stuff.

“I told them to get on the ground,” Ross said. “They didn’t want to so I fired a shot in the ground and they got on the ground.”

That makes two times Ross has held thieves at gunpoint until sheriff’s deputies could arrive.

“Hopefully we can get this shut down,” Garfield County Sheriff Jerry Niles said. “We’re also our patrols are up and we have some other things going on out there too.”

“This stuff they were stealing was from a 90-year-old woman,” Ross said. “My grandmother’s still alive. The stuff in there wasn’t just mine, it was hers too.”

Thieves have stolen antiques from the home, scrap metal from the barn, even the door off a car.

Ross said thieves probably think his property is an easy target.

“Well I guess they do,” he said. “It isn’t going to be any more.”

Ross said he’ll continue to do whatever it takes to protect what belongs to him and his grandmother.

The two juveniles from Sunday night’s burglary were arrested.

Sheriff Niles said more arrests could be made in connection with the one last week.

He said it appears the burglaries at Ross’ property are not connected.
