OKLAHOMA CITY – Drums, guitar and puppets have brought a brand-new band to life at their first ever rehearsal – and, of course, ventriloquist-singing sensation, Darci Lynne.

“It’s going to be the first time I’m going to have live band behind me and playing all of my songs for me, and I’m really excited about it,” Darci said.

“I think it’s going to be a great mentoring time for her learning the ropes of having a band,” said Mom Misty Farmer.

It’s been a whirlwind two years for Darci .

After getting her first puppet, Katie, at the age of 10, Darci catapulted to stardom when she won America’s Got Talent in 2017, then had her own Christmas special in December and, most recently, won runner up in America’s Got Talent: The Champions.

“I love it because, when I’m traveling all over, it’s like I see and meet so many people. I see so many different stages but, when I perform here, it’s for all of my friends and family, my Oklahoma family,” she said.

For the first time since her sold out show in 2017, Darci will perform on Mother’s Day at the Oklahoma City Civic Center Music Hall. And, of course, her own mother will be there supporting her.

“Puppet wrangler is what I always say because I’m putting the rods on, I’m dressing them, I’m making sure their tables are the right height,” Farmer said.

Darci’s brother, father and mom travel with her to all of her appearances and shows.

“I’m just glad they’re there along the way with me. I have them going through all of this with me. It’s not just me by myself,” she said.

Because, fame as a middle school student isn’t easy. In addition to being on her ‘Fresh Out of The Box’ tour, Darci is in the middle of state testing at Deer Creek Middle School.

“It’s been rough,” she said.

But, Darci’s mom said she’s determined to stay in public school.

“That’s her norm. Going to school, she feels normal. She feels like Darci. She can dread math every week and, you know, do all of the normal stuff. Go to football games,” Farmer said.

It’s really important for Darci’s mom and dad to keep Darci’s life as normal as possible while helping her still pursue her dreams, even if that means being a superhero one day.

“I’ve always wanted to be in an action movie like my whole life. I’ve always wanted to do those cool fighting scenes like girl power. My mom is laughing at me,” she said.

But, while life on the big screen is a future goal, right now, Darci’s focused on her main passion of making music with her favorite friends and family by her side.

“I can tell she’s in this for a while because she just loves it. She just loves to bring joy. People are so happy at her shows,” Farmer said.
