OKLAHOMA CITY - Gas prices are at a shocking low right now, nationwide, including right here in Oklahoma.

In a growing number of states you can find gas for under $2.00.

In Oklahoma, drivers are paying way less than that, a welcoming sight for many, but also tough for others in a state run by oil.

You can't miss the bright and bold numbers that read $1.59.

"It's really great, especially during Christmas time and the New Year," said Jerry Wagner.

"It's refreshing because I've never seen gas this low," said Kyle Smailey. lists that’s the lowest price of gallon of regular gas in the metro.

Gas Buddy representatives said motorists are saving nearly $300 million a day versus prices last year.

There are a number of reasons for the falling prices, but one oil and gas analyst said Saudi Arabia is overflowing the market with oil in an attempt to take out its competitors.

"Saudi Arabia is trying to undermine U.S. shale oil production, which has risen due to the high oil prices, and they have geo-political reasons undermine Iran and Russia,” said analyst Andrew Lipow.

While low gas prices are great for the consumer, some people in the oil business are not feeling the benefits.

"A lot of my friends are in the oil field and are really kind of upset about it. I think it's good to find a good medium," said Smailey.

"I hope the oil companies can do well for Oklahoma City as well with the price of oil going down," said Wagner.

For many drivers, saving at the tank and pocketing the difference is a great way to start 2015.

“It’s just nice to save $15-20 every time you fill up," said Wagner.

"It just frees up to be able to do more fun things, going out to dinner, going to the movies, stuff like that," said Susana Makintubee.
