State Troopers are on the scene of a single-car fatal collision involving an Okfuskee County Sheriff’s Deputy, who was responding to a call for
assistance.

The Deputy, David Allford, was responding to a call for assistance from a state trooper who was reportedly attempting to arrest a possible drunk driver. At some point during the response, the Deputy ran off the road, struck a cable barrier and overturned.

The Deputy was ejected from his Chevy Tahoe and pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputy’s vehicle was westbound on I-40, responding to assist an OHP unit with a combative subject.

The OHP investigation says that the deputy had a blowout on the left front of the vehicle, departed the road and struck the cable barrier. The vehicle then overturned approximately two times coming to rest on its wheels on the shoulder of the eastbound side.

Eastbound I-40 is back open at mile marker 218. The accident occurred near Okemah.

The Okfuskee County Sheriff department released the following statement on Deputy Allford:
We are sad to announce the passing of Okfuskee County Sheriff’s Deputy David E. Allford.

On September 11, 2013 at about 4:20 P.M., Deputy Allford was responding to an “Officer needs assistance” call, west of Okemah, on Interstate 40 when an apparent blow-out caused him to lose control of his vehicle and roll. Deputy Allford was pronounced dead at the scene.

David was 37 years old, a U.S. Army Veteran and has been a police officer in Oklahoma since 2000.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 16, 2013, at 10:00 A.M., at the Wetumka First Assembly of God with interment at the Wetumka Cemetery.

Memorial funds in David Allford’s name have been established at BancFirst of Okemah and Citizen’s State Bank of Okemah.
