OKLA. CITY – If you have a cell phone, you could receive one!

Junk text messages can be annoying.

They usually promise a big pay day, except you won’t strike it rich!

We’re constantly warning you about text and phone scams.

Sometimes scammers will say you’ve won a prize from the Oklahoma Lottery, but in order to cash in you must pay the taxes on the winnings.

Our seniors are the most vulnerable.

The federal trade commission says people 65 years and older are three times more likely to fall for prize promotion schemes.

The In Your Corner bottom line:

  • If you have to pay to collect, it’s a scam!
  • Never respond directly to a spam text, unless you want more of them!
  • Instead forward the unsolicited message to the FTC.
  • You can also report them to your phone carrier by texting the word “spam” to 7726.
