EDMOND, OKLA. – Our In Your Corner team has new details involving an alleged international scam artist.
Justin Stuart is accused of defrauding countless Americans, including dozens of vendors in Oklahoma.
For the past year our team’s been working with Canadian investigators to build their case against Stuart.
It’s alleged he staged bogus trade shows at state fairgrounds around the country, but those shows were a bust!
From the get go the Stuart refused to cooperate with our investigation.
“What you care about is putting on a show to make people look bad who haven’t done anything wrong,” he said. “That’s all you care about to get is your ratings. You don’t care about anything besides that.”
Stuart gave us a false name, then denied running a bogus trade show scam out of his home in Kingston, Ontario.
He’s charged with seven counts of fraud and one count of money laundering.
Canadian investigators say he promoted bogus trade shows online, then made his living renting out booth space to unsuspecting vendors.
Chiropractor Brad Finley said, “The agreement was I’d pay him $85 for the show and then I show up that Friday morning and I see an empty building that should be set up for a show.”
Canadian investigators continue to build their case against Stuart.
There are reports of countless complaints in at least 8 states and nearly 30 new alleged victims in Oklahoma alone.
The tricky part though is getting US victims to a Canadian courtroom to testify.
The In Your Corner team has learned the Canadian courts could let each witness give their testimony by video conference.
A ruling is expected later this year.
Stuart’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for later this year.
We’ll keep you posted.
