OKLAHOMA CITY – Our In Your Corner team continues to give back this holiday season.

For weeks now they’ve been partnering with the non-profit, Citizens Caring for Children, to fill Christmas wish lists for children living in foster care.

Yesterday, we capped off our record-breaking Joy 4 Kids campaign with a big party for about 80 foster children. They weren’t there to see our In Your Corner team though.

Decked out in a red hat and Air Jordans, Russell Westbrook dished out handshakes, hugs and lots of Nike swag.

Each child received a brand new pair of Air Jordans, a Nike backpack and t-shirt.

“One kid did a cart-wheel. Another one ran up and gave me a big hug,” Westbrook said. “One told me even I was better than Michael Jordan.”

14 year-old Brandon Ripley tried playing it cool when it was his turn to meet the NBA superstar.

He said, “It felt pretty good, because I got my name called out by a superstar.”

Westbrook, who grew up in inner city Los Angeles, wants all children, especially those who are at-risk, to shoot for the stars. He recently started his Why Not? Foundation.

“My motto is ‘why not?’ And I think by saying, ‘why not,’ it gives you an opportunity; anything is possible,” Westbrook said.

Russell and little brother, Raynard, are living proof of that.

“Growing up we didn’t have that many Jordans,” Raynard said. “It’s a blessing to give back to all these kids here.”

Westbrook fed the kids, signed autographs and posed for pictures.

A truly magical day for a bunch of kids dealt a bad hand in life.

“To be able to give out gifts today, it’s just amazing,” Westbrook said.
