EDMOND, Okla. - Everyone should have a warm coat.

Our In Your Corner team continues to collect gently-used and new coats for Oklahoma kids and adults needing help staying warm.

Our Warmth 4 Winter campaign spans more than three decades.

Brad Edwards was such a kind man, who noticed kids out in the bitter cold without coats.

Each year, we dish out thousands of coats to people in need, but first, the gently-used ones must get cleaned at Legacy Cleaners & Laundry.

“Then, we were asked to do it. I just felt privileged to do it,” owner Monte Turrentine said. “Being a business owner and helping the community, supporting the community. It's just a great opportunity for us.”

Legacy Cleaners and Laundry will collect and clean all of the coats and Two Men and a Truck are back supplying the donation boxes and helping us haul the coats around town.

“We're seeing the need is already grown since last year and the year prior,” Two Men and a Truck's co-owner, Adam Mecke, said. “More trucks will get dedicated to it, more crews.”

Mecke remembers being a child and on the receiving end of a coat donation.

“Getting that, it didn't matter where it came from,” he said. “It was the fact I had it. It was confidence going into the classroom knowing I had a coat [and was] warm.”

The number of children and adults needing help seems to go up every year.

Dee Watts from The Salvation Army remembers giving a coat to a young girl who had just lost everything in a house fire.

“We got them coats,” she said. “The joy that was on that child's face said, ‘Ooh, I have my own coat and it's mine and it doesn't smell like smoke.”

Here's your chance to look inside your closet to find a coat you can share.

You can drop off your gently used or new coat donation at a Legacy Cleaners near you or at one of our official Warmth 4 Winter drop-off locations around town.
