(CNN) – If you are driving a new vehicle, you may be safer than you were in previous years.

This year, 71 vehicles earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick.

Last year, there were only 39 cars that made the list.

The Insurance Institute puts vehicles through various crash tests to measure how well they protect occupants.

Cars are then put into different categories, including poor, marginal, acceptable and good.

Toyota had 12 vehicles on the list, while Honda had 10.
