The New Year may also mean looking for a new spouse.

An analysis by and legal research service Westlaw Shows a spike in divorces in January–which has earned the nickname “Divorce Month” in recent years.

That spike is followed by a rise and a peak in late march.

The analysis was done on divorce filings in the U.S. between 2008 and 2011.

It also shows searchers for “Divorce” and related phrases jumped 50% from December to January, and continued to swell through march.

Family attorneys say the spike may be the result of people not wanting to look heartless by breaking things off just before Christmas.
