LINCOLN COUNTY, Okla. - The manhunt for a suspected murderer is over, but that's not the way it feels for Don Wilkson.

"It’ll never be over," he said. "Not for me, it won’t. It’s just something I can’t handle because, no matter what, he’s still dead and I can’t pick up my phone and call my boy."

Don's son, Ronnie, lost his life last week.

Police said Michael Vance killed him and his wife, Kay, at their Luther home.

"I didn’t know how much pain there really was in this world until I got that phone call," Don said. "You can’t describe it. I lost my right arm. Ronnie wasn’t only my son. He was my best friend. And, I leaned on him like no man should."

Ron was Don's only son, but he said he loved Kay like a daughter.

As Vance stayed on the run, with reports of a Luther-themed hit list, Wilkson never feared for his safety.

"If he’d have walked up and said he was going to kill me, I would have said ‘Do it’ because, as of right now, my life means nothing to me," he said. "I’m 86 years old, and I don’t know if I’ll ever get over it or not and really don’t care. I just lost too much."

Wilkson said he is grateful to the law enforcement officers who brought Vance down, adding he'd like to personally thank and shake the hand of Dewey County Sheriff Clay Sander, who was wounded in a shootout with the suspect.

The news Vance is no longer at large is as close to relief as Wilkson can get.

"That was almost as good of news as Ronnie’s death was bad news, because now I know that nobody else will go through what I’m going through," he said. "And, that does me good, because he’s not going to kill anybody else. So, he got what he deserved last night. I just wish he would’ve got it a week earlier."
