EDMOND, Okla. – An explosion rocked a property just outside Edmond on Friday morning, leveling one barn and damaging another.

While investigators try to piece together what happened, the owners are trying to piece together what’s left.

Pete and Elsie Harner have been married for decades.

“Going on 62 years,” exclaimed Pete proudly.

Until Friday morning, the two had lived a silent and secluded life off Waterloo Rd. in Edmond.

“I went to the barn and got some tools,” Pete explained. “By the time I got back here, it just exploded.”

Pete’s phone soon died, leaving Elsie in the dark about what happened at her property.

At the time of the explosion, she was in a ‘Master Gardner’ meeting in the city.

“I get this call, ‘Your barns on fire.’ And I went, ‘Oh my God, I gotta go, emergency,” said Elsie. “All I could think of was, is he in the barn?”

Elsie pulled up to find her barn blown away, but her Pete intact.

Inside the barn were trucks, ATV’s, gas cans, rototillers, tools and memories.

“He built that barn 38 years ago,” said Elsie.

“It’s all gone now, I mean everything,” lamented Pete.

But so long as they have each other, the Harner’s believe they have everything.

“This stuff could be redid, if I decide to do it, it can be redid,” said Pete. “It`ll take a while. I may not go that big to build it back.”

The Edmond Fire Department originally responded to the call, but the investigation is now being handled by the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office.

The cause of the fire has not been released.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
