CLEVELAND, Ohio– For the first time, a man accused of holding three women captive for years appeared in court for a hearing Wednesday.

Ariel Castro, 52, faces more than 100 counts, including murder, kidnapping and rape.

Castro’s attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

He is accused of starving and repeatedly beating one of the women until she miscarried.

Due to the murder charge, Castro could face the death penalty.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled for June 19.

Officials say Castro will remain behind bars on an $8 million bond.
