KINGFISHER, Okla. – Police in one Oklahoma town are warning residents about a potential scam.

The Kingfisher Police Department says they have received several complaints from citizens in recent weeks.

The calls appear to come from an acquaintance, talking about damage to the victim’s car.

Eventually, officers say the caller will ask for you to wire cash to them rather than deal with the insurance company.

Authorities say there are tools that hackers use that allow them to look like they are in your contacts list.

If you receive one of the calls, officials say you should simply hang up.
