OKLAHOMA CITY – Lawmakers are launching a study into our state’s runaway alert system.

They will be looking at how the runaway alert system works and current practices  to recover runaway children.

Rep. Joe Dorman requested the study.

He ran legislation during the last session to create a runaway alert system similar to Amber Alerts.

To make sure that new system doesn’t burden law enforcement, Dorman wants to make it voluntary and set up a filter so officers only receive reports for runaways in their zip code.

The study will convene at 9 a.m. at the State Capitol.
