NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) – Authorities in Norman spent 12 hours dealing with an armed barricaded suspect in Norman.

Around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Norman police were called to a burglary in progress in the 3200 block of Timber Shadows Dr.

When officers arrived at the scene near W. Tecumseh Rd. and N. Porter Ave., they learned a man had forcibly entered a home. Fortunately, nobody was home at the time.

Police identified the man as 32-year-old Alexander Daniel Torvi, and they learned he had made statements that he would force officers to kill him.

Around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, Torvi reportedly opened fire upon officers. Police say he fired several dozen rounds at them from multiple locations within the home.

Officers, who were in safe locations and within an armored vehicle, did not return fire.

Around 6:30 a.m., Torvi surrendered to police. He was arrested on complaints of discharging a firearm into a dwelling, assault with a deadly weapon, second-degree burglary, malicious injury to property, and unlawful carrying of a firearm.
