CHICKASHA, Okla.—A man who is accused of murdering a Grady County resident was found dead inside his cell Saturday evening.

Sources tell NewsChannel 4 that 31-year-old George Rouse hung himself with a telephone cord.

He was found by jailers around 6 p.m. as they tried to resuscitate him with no luck.

Last week, Rouse was charged with first-degree murder for the death of Danny Franklin.

Franklin’s body was found by his father on the family’s property in Chickasha.

Rouse admitted to a sheriff’s deputy that he shot Franklin in the head with a .22 after he claimed Franklin lied about him.

Grady county officials have asked the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to handle the case.

The medical examiner’s office will determine Rouse’s official cause of death.
